As part of its research project, "Step-by-step Plan for Integration of Early Childhood Education and Childcare," conducted in 2022 at the request of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) hosted three special forums with the theme “The Issues and Challenges of the New Government's Integration of Early Childhood Education and Childcare.”
The “3rd Special Forum on Integrating Early Childhood Education and Child Care”, which took place on Friday May 13, 2022, featured a presentation by Yang, Misun on “improving the treatment of early childhood education and childcare teachers” followed by a presentation by Professor Eom, Moonyoung of Seoul National University on “plan to secure integrated finances for early childhood education and childcare.” Following the topic-specific presentations, Song Gi-Chang, a professor at Sookmyung Women's University, led a discussion with experts in early childhood education and childcare finance (Professor Woo, Seokjin of Myongji University, Professor Oh, Bum-Ho of Seoul National University of Education, and researcher Kim Dong Hoon of KICCE) and President Lee, Kyungmi of the Korean Association of Public Kindergarten Teachers. The forum was broadcast live on YouTube so that officials who were unable to attend in person could still share their opinions.
The purpose of this forum is to share the current measures for integrating early childhood education and childcare, as well as to encourage further discussion around key issues. Based on opinions from various classes gathered through the forum, KICCE will seek more advanced measures to implement the integration policy. In order to collect a broader range of opinions, a ‘public opinion poll on the integration of early childhood education and childcare’ will take place for two weeks, from May 13 (Friday) to May 27 (Friday).
