The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) held the "1st ECEC Policy Symposium" on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the UNESCO Hall conference room, under the theme "Enhancing Evidence-Based Child Care Policies to Address Low Birth Rates: Advanced Support for the Early Life Stage Before and After Pregnancy and Childbirth."


 

During this symposium, two main presentations were given. The first presentation was delivered by Lee Jaehee, Research Fellow at KICCE (Head of the Fertility and Child Rearing Support Research Team and Head of the Post-natal Care Service Consulting Team). The topic was "Overseas Trends in Post-natal Care Centers and Policy Implications," which shared the current status of post-natal Care centers abroad and discussed the potential for benchmarking these centers in South Korea and strategies for industry development.

The second presentation was given by Professor Kim Hee-sun of the obstetrics and gynecology clinic at Dongguk University Medical Center(Head of the Northern Gyeonggi Counseling Center for Fertility and Depression). The topic was "Outcomes and Challenges of the Infertility and Postpartum Depression Support System (Pregnant Women Support Center)," which presented the current status and issues of depression throughout the pregnancy and childbirth cycle, and proposed measures to activate infertility and depression counseling centers.

In the comprehensive discussion of the second part, Lee Jung-lim, former Senior Research Fellow at KICCE, Choi Byung Min, Professor of department of pediatrics at Korea University Ansan Hospital (President of the Korean Society of Maternal and Child Health), Son Ji-yeon, Team Leader of the Health Promotion Division at Gyeonggi Provincial Government, and Choi Young-jun, Director of the Birth Policy Division at the Ministry of Health and Welfare, participated.
