The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) held the 2nd Korean ECEC Panel Study Conference on August 30th (Friday) at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the theme of "Panel Research and Interdisciplinary Collaboration for the Happiness of Children and Parents." The "Korean ECEC Panel Study" is a new panel study initiated by KICCE in 2021, following the "Panel Study on Korean Childrenl," aiming to collect cross-sectional and longitudinal data on the growth and development of young children and various environments surrounding them. This academic conference, the second of its kind following the first conference in 2023, marked the first time panel data collected in 2021 and 2022 was made publicly available, providing a platform for presenting research papers and facilitating exchanges among researchers. Additionally, eight academic societies, including the Association of Families and Better Life, the The Korean Pediatric Society, the Korean Home Economics Association, the Korean Society of Maternal and Child Health, the Korean Childcare & Education, the Korean Association of Child Studies, the Korean Society for Early Childhood Education & Care, and the Korean Association of Human Development, collaborated in this event. Starting this year, the conference included a call for graduate student research papers, awarding two teams with excellence awards and one team with an encouragement award, followed by a presentation by Bae Yun-jin, the principal researcher of the Korean ECEC Panel Study.

In the first session, a keynote speech was delivered by Professor Suh Eunkook of the Department of Psychology at Yonsei University, on the theme of "Wisdom of Happiness to Pass on to Children." This was followed by a thematic lecture by Professor Lim Byung Chan of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescents at Seoul National University Hospital, who is also the Director of Development at the Korean Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine (a collaborating institution), on the topic of "Collaborative Research with the Korean Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Using the Korean Early Childhood Education and Care Panel Data."

In the second session, a total of ten research papers were presented on themes such as "Parents' Quality of Life and Policy Support (session by the Association of Families and Better Life)," "Plans for Subsequent Childbirth," "Parenting Characteristics of Infants' Parents," and "Parental Depression." Among these, some papers were those awarded through the graduate student research paper contest. Researchers presented their findings using panel data and engaged in discussions with experts in the field.
