The Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) successfully hosted the 2025 1st KICCE Child Care Policy Network Forum under the theme, “Discussing the New Future of Childcare: Seeking a Balance Between Care and Education in a Competition- and Achievement-Oriented Society,” on Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Sky Hall of Seoul Post Tower.
This forum was organized to examine the growing phenomenon of private education for young children amidst a rapidly changing environment and intensifying competition, and to explore ways to achieve a balance between care and education for the healthy development of young children.
The first keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Jong Hay Rha, President of the Korean Association of Child Studies, on the topic of “Care and Education in a Competition- and Achievement-Oriented Society.”
The second presentation was given by Dr. Yoon Kyung Choi, Senior Research Fellow at KICCE, under the title “Understanding Public Education, Care, and Private Education: A Transformative Approach.”
Following the presentations, representatives from academic societies, early childhood education and care organizations, civic groups, quasi-public institutions, and media outlets engaged in an Open Talk session. During this session, they freely exchanged views centered on the core topics of care and education in relation to early childhood private education, sharing diverse perspectives on future directions.
KICCE holds the Child Care Policy Network Forum annually to strengthen collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders. Through this initiative, the Institute enhances its public responsibility and accountability as a national research institute, while fulfilling its role as a hub and platform for child care policy research.
Moving forward, KICCE will continue to work closely with academia, industry, and research communities to advance child-centered care policies and will endeavor to propose sustainable policy alternatives.
